“For 14 cents a day, u can stop this”. I really don’t get this photo but it seems promising for a potential storyline. It’s supposed to be a funny ad, but where’s the humor? Now to crack my brain juices for a possible story on tragedy and its effects.

Scenario: A lonely stray cat is spotted walking through the ruins of a village, searching for food as it had been starving for days. An old lady from the background spotted the poor starving cat and moves towards it…

Their conversation:

Cat: “Meow…”

Old lady turns around looking for the source of the whimpering sound barely audible for human ears.

Cat: “MEOW…”

Old Lady turns suddenly at the alarming increase in the cat’s whimper. Spotted: a pint-sized grey fur cat ready to pounce on her.

Old Lady: “Ooh, what do we have here, let us see…”

Cat stares at old lady, distancing itself from her to make sure she wasn’t a predator.

Old Lady: “Oh you poor little thing, come here, let me bring you some food.”

Old Lady proceeds to pick the cat up, with a gentle approach. Cat backs off.

Cat: “MEOW!” (cautious of advancing figure)

Old Lady: You’re a spoilt brat, kitty.” (roughly carries the cat up with both her hands)

Cat: AARGH! (went in for the old lady’s nose)

Old Lady: AAH!!!! How dare you little wicked thing bite my nose!”

The friendly approach had by now turn into a feeling of animosity between the two parties.

From a playful mere struggle between the Cat’s claws and the Old Lady’s fragile hands to a muscle-straining pull-and-push struggle, the endless “war” gets serious as the Cat attempts to bite the Old Lady’s poor bleeding nose for the second time. Old Lady was actually being nice trying to play along with Cat, but it seems that it has hostile feelings towards Old Lady and thus she starts to respond by gripping Cat’s neck. A choking grip on Cat’s throat, suffocating it. As she was about to let go of her hands, the Cat suddenly stop struggling and died. “Meow….” the last audible sound that came out of the cat is heard.

All of a sudden Old Lady is alarmed at what she did, at what was never her intention to kill the cat but play with it in the first place. She sat down there among the debris and held the cat in her arms. Eyes filled with regret of her terrible actions.

This is a tragic tale but it does not follow the conventions of greek tragedy. It would possibly only resemble a greek tragedy had it been the old woman playing with the cat but not realizing that she was actually killing it.
